This talk traces GitOps evolution from its 2017 origins as a simple application delivery model to its current role in platform engineering, addressing why early approaches fail at scale and how tools like Argo CD, Helm, and Kustomize enabled scaling while creating configuration sprawl. It explores the limitations of Git as a state store, introduces OCI-based delivery and Gitless GitOps as solutions, and discusses how the Cyber Resilience Act and AI-driven operations require real, operable state stores and clear infrastructure supply chains.
